Former Judge of High Court of Judicature at Allahabad, Justice Sudhir Agarwal, is well known for his landmark judgement in case of Ram Janam Bhoomi- Babari Masjid case delivered on 30.09.2010. While on bench he has also dealt with several cases of environmental issues like Ganga Pollution case, stopping of illegal Mining of silica sand in 47 villages of Shankargarh and civil and criminal action against the offenders, shifting of hospitals from residential areas for proper disposal of bio medical waste and protection from contamination, removal of unauthorized construction on green belt in Ghaziabad, removal of car parking from roads leading to vehicular pollution, action against illegal encroachment on catchment area of Gomti river front, Lucknow, stopping of illegal digging of land for laying cables etc. in urban areas leading to land pollution, demolition of commercial complex/ mall illegally raised on land reserved for development of herbal garden in Kanpur, etc.
Justice Agarwal is well known for his hard work and during his tenure as High Court Judge he has decided and delivered judgement in more than 1,40,000 cases in almost every jurisdiction, be it civil, criminal, service, constitution, rent, tax, environment etc.
The judgement in dispute relating to installation of Shankaracharya on Badrikashram Peeth, compulsory sending of wards of government servants and officers in state of U.P. to government schools, treatment of government servants and officers in government hospital and medical colleges only, recovery of damages to public property in riots etc. from the miscreants, are also few of the well known judgements delivered by him.
Before being elevated to the bench for around 15 years on 05.10.2005, Justice Agarwal has practiced in High Court of Judicature at Allahabad for 25 years. On 10.04.2004 he was designated as a Senior Advocate by the High Court and has also held the office of Additional Advocate General, for the State of U.P. till his elevation to the bench. Initially, Justice Agarwal has started practicing in tax and service matters, but subsequently specialized in service and electricity matters. He had been standing counsel for U.P. State Electricity Board, U.P. Rajkiya Nirman Nigam, University of Allahabad, High Court of Judicature at Allahabad and all its Subordinate Courts.
Justice Agarwal had retired from the High Court on 23.04.2020. He joined the National Green Tribunal, New Delhi as Judicial Member on 06.04.2021.
