Professor (Dr.) P.C. Mishra joined as a CSIR research scholar to pursue his doctorate degree. Got his Ph.D degree in 1981. Joined as a lecturer in Life Sciences at the School of Life Science, Sambalpur University in 1984 and then as Reader and Head of the Department of the newly established Department of Environmental Sciences of the same University in 1992. Elevated to the post of a professor in Environmental Science in 2000 and continued in that post until his superannuation from service in January 2013. Expert in the area of environmental pollution, control and management. Made significant contributions towards fighting pollution in the Mahanadi and Brahmani rivers and to the Hirakud Dam Reservoir in response to industrialization and deforestation. Awarded the degree of Doctor of Science (D.Sc.) by Ranchi University on his work on ‘Low Cost Treatment of Waste Water’. Published 110 research papers in journals of national and international repute and authored/edited 10 books. Appointed to the National Green Tribunal as an Expert Member on November 16, 2012 and his tenure ended on November 15, 2017.
