Dr. Nagin Nanda is an Indian Forest Service officer of 1985 batch, H.P. Cadre. He has over three decades of applied experience in forests, environment and allied sectors with a good understanding of developmental issues, challenges and consequences at different levels of governance. His areas of experience and intervention include forests and natural resources management; environment protection and conservation; pollution prevention, abatement and control; land use planning and management including spatial environmental planning; biological diversity conservation and protected area management; wetland management; climate change mitigation and adaptation; vulnerability assessment and environmental disasters; EIA & EMP appraisal and monitoring; environmental disclosure, reporting and regulation etc. Under his leadership, the state’s Department of Environment, Science & Technology was conferred with the Prime Ministers’ Award for Excellence in Public Administration for its outstanding initiative ‘Sustainable Plastic Waste Management in Himachal Pradesh: From Concept to Policy’ in April, 2011.
He has also facilitated the setting up centers of excellence in the state viz. ‘State Centre on Climate Change’ for coordinating strategies and actions including research on aspects related to climate change; ‘Aryabhatta Geoinformatics & Space Application Centre (AGiSAC)’ to function as a nodal agency to facilitate the use of spatial and geo-spatial technologies for sustainable planning of developmental activities; Virtual centre on ‘Centre for Science, Creativity & Learning’ to create and trigger scientific temper amongst children and the ‘Appropriate Technology Centre’ for propagation of green building and related technologies in the State.
Appointed to the National Green Tribunal as an Expert Member on March 1, 2017 and his tenure ended on February 28, 2022.
